Do you believe the existence of mermaids and mermen? When I first read The Deep by Helen Dunmore, I could not put it down. From Little Mermaids to God Triton, Arabian Nights to Kappa in Japanese legends, Merfolks exist as a mythology around the world.
But as the images presented are always adult merfolks, I wondered what those creatures look like at inception. Are they always merfolks, were they first fish than human, or other way around, or a union between two species? They always stand in-between of two separate brackets and represent the union of divergent forces, and I think that’s why I found them exceptionally fascinating and beautiful.
