Lauren Dai, a Harvard senior, interviewed her friend and former classmate, Chase Hu who is now working on Wall Street. Lauren discovered three surprising “real world” lessons on how to succeed professionally and personally after graduating this summer. Find out how these lessons may help you in your career.
Hi everyone! Hope you’re all doing well since we last chatted. It’s Lauren here back in Harvard. So as all of you know, a few weeks ago I had the exciting opportunity to go into NYC and meet up with one of our favorite CP team members, Chase Hu, who graduated last year from Harvard.I’ll be graduating from Harvard this May, so in just a few short months. I was very curious to chat with Chase about what life after graduation is like.
From my interview with Chase, I learned three key lessons that I want to share with all of you today.
The first thing that struck me about Chase when I first saw him was how much more mature and professional he looked. Certainly part of it was due to the fact that he was still in a suit from work, but more importantly, it was the way he carried himself—warm as always, but professional and courteous.
Although Chase didn’t mention this point, I think that the way he has learned to dress and present himself in the working world makes an important difference in his success. You always have to be professional, presentable and trustworthy to clients.
The second key lesson that I learned from Chase is that as a new and junior person at work, be humble and invest the time to learn and observe from those who are more experienced than you. Chase’s success in the workplace so far emphasizes how important simple learning and observation are, especially when you come from a school like Harvard, where stereotypes may wrongfully stamp you as arrogant.
The third key lesson I learned from my chat with Chase is about the importance of seeking out a community after you graduate. Chase is planning to get more involved with a church and volunteer activities as well as learn to sail. I am sure his resolutions will help him feel a lot more integrated into his new community in NYC, and I really encourage all of you to think about ways to get more involved in your communities as well.
Speaking of community, CP has definitely been that for me recently. It’s great to spend some time with all of you in the CP network community, and I look forward to chatting soon! To take a leaf from a show that I used to love when I was a little kid: 看CP, 朋友遍天下 (watch CP, make friends from all around of the world)!
大家好!希望你们一切都好。我是Lauren,
